On Sat. Aug. 10, 2019 at Campus Martius in downtown Detroit, a demonstration was held to commemorate the second anniversary of Charlottesville, where anti-racist activist Heather Heyer was killed by a white supremacist and dozens were injured by Nazi and Klan thugs while the cops stood by. Two days later, Trump outraged workers and oppressed across the country when he announced that these fascist attacks were carried out by “very fine people”.
Activists from the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) called this action in conjunction with similar events in the California Bay Area, Baltimore and Wisconsin.
The protest in Detroit turned into a speak out against racism and racist violence. This action came just one week after the massacres in Gilroy, California; El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio, where white supremacists killed more than 30 people in mass shootings.
Until conscious and dedicated people build a militant and uncompromising movement against racism, spawned by capitalism and imperialism, these attacks will continue endangering millions throughout the United States and the world.
