After the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) weekly organizing meeting on Nov. 11, 2019, the participants expressed their support for President Evo Morales of Bolivia:

The right-wing imperialist-backed coup in Bolivia must be condemned, activists proclaimed. They said: “long live the revolutionary movements and parties throughout Latin America!”

These pictures were taken outside the Moratorium NOW! Coalition / MECAWI offices amid the first snowstorm of the season. Despite the ten inches of snow and ice, leading members and activist-friends gathered to discuss some of the most pressing and burning issues impacting the struggling and oppressed peoples from Detroit to Bolivia in South America.

The same destabilization and disruptive tactics used against the people of Detroit are also being enacted with sinister and deadly force against our comrades and friends in Bolivia as well as throughout the region and the world, they emphasized. According to the group, they stand side by side with the revolutionary forces in Bolivia and their President Evo Morales.

President Morales was removed from office on Sun. Nov. 10, 2019. The leadership of the army and police forced him out of office even though he was just re-elected for another term.

The United States administration of President Donald Trump immediately recognized the coup lending to speculation that the State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) had orchestrated the putsch utilizing right-wing elements within Bolivia. The Bolivian state under Morales since 2005 had implemented tremendous gains for the Indigenous, peasantry and working class people of the South American nation.

Morales was granted political asylum by Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. The Bolivian president arrived in Mexico on November 12.
