Detroit Tribute to Dr. Carter G. Woodson Held at African American History Museum

These photographs were taken on Thurs. Dec. 19, 2019 during a public symposium on the life, times, works and ideas of Dr. Carter G. Woodson (1875-1950). The event was held at the Dr. Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History located in the Midtown District of Detroit.

There were two guest speakers: Prof. Evelyn Brooks Higgenbotham of Harvard and Prof. Pero G. Dagbovie of Michigan State University. This event was also sponsored by the Detroit Chapter of the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. The organization was founded by Dr. Woodson in 1915. Today Detroit Historian Jamon Jordan serves as president of the organization in the city. Prof. Higgenbotham is the national president and Prof. Dagbovie serves as editor of the Journal of African American History, founded by Dr. Woodson in 1916.
