In response to another wave of police attacks and killings of African American and Latin American people in the United States, activists are taking to the streets to denounce racist violence. Clark Park, located on the southwest side of Detroit, was the center of a mass meeting on Saturday, April 17, 2021.
The gathering was organized by Detroit Will Breathe (DWB) and featured speakers from this anti-racist youth-led movement along with solidarity statements from the Yemen Liberation Movement, Movimienta Cosecha Detroit, Wherever We Are Needed, Palestine Youth Movement, and others.
Speakers decried the absurdity of the Minneapolis trial of the white police officer who killed George Floyd, the recent shooting deaths of Daunte Wright in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota and Adam Toledo in Chicago.
Several activists condemned the city administration and its failure to address the needs of the majority African American population in Detroit.
This rally was held just days before the guilty on all counts verdict in the Derrick Chauvin case in Minneapolis. There were demonstrations held across the U.S. during that weekend.
