Detroit — Some 150 people rallied October 26 at the Ruth Ellis Center in Highland Park, Michigan, for transgender rights and lives, letting it be known loud and clear: Trans people will not be erased!

The rally was called to denounce the Trump administration’s recent announced goal of “denying transgender people legal protection by essentially legally defining transness out of existence,” describes the Facebook event page. “[N]ow is an essential time to show support for and solidarity with trans and intersex folks in the Detroit Metro area, Michigan and beyond.” Demonstrations and rallies have been taking place across the United States.

Members of the Communist Workers League participated in this demonstration and brought leaflets to distribute featuring the Fighting Words article by CWL activist Cassandra Devereaux, “New offensive in Trump’s war on transgender people,” which gives a political background to the latest attacks.
