Thousands took to the streets in Dearborn, Michigan, a suburb just west of the border with Detroit on Saturday, May 15, 2021, to commemorate al-Nakba, the catastrophe for Palestinians and other nations in West Asia and North Africa with the formation of Israel on this day in 1948.
A recent upsurge in resistance activity prompted by state repression has fueled Palestine solidarity work globally.
The demonstration in Dearborn was called by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) of Detroit and supported by many other organizations from throughout the area including the Yemeni Liberation Movement, United States Palestinian Community Network, Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI), Anakbayan Detroit chapter, among others.
All speakers condemned U.S. foreign policy towards Palestine which is continuing without interruption under the current administration of President Joe Biden.
Over 100 people have been killed in recent clashes and bombings. The fighting has encompassed all areas of Palestine resulting in solidarity demonstrations throughout the region and the world.
