The Centennial of Malcolm X Continues!

MXCC Continues Book Talk Series And Newark Inroads Wednesday!

On Wednesday, September 10th, the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee (MXCC) and Community Movement Builders’ (CMB) new Newark chapter will cohost a book signing for London based Black radical scholar Kehinde Andrews of the Harambee Organization of African Unity and his new book on Malcolm X ‘Nobody Can Give You Your Freedom!’

“Malcolm had the clearest analysis of racism and proposed a concrete solution,” says Andrews of his subject in a work that takes on the ‘myths’ of Malcolm X and the role academics have played in perpetuating those myths.

“Too few appreciate the massive impact had and continues to have on people of African Descent on other oppressed nationalities abroad with his searing bold revolutionary international solidarity.

“His impact on London’s AfroAsian communities give a profoundly clear picture on what that looked then and how that continues to persist even to this day,” says Zayid Muhammad, chair for the Malcolm X Commemoration Committee.

“On top of that Kehinde Andrews gives us another volume that liberates Malcolm from post Movement cooptation properly claiming him as an enormous and for the Black Radical Tradition,” he finished.

In addition to the MXCC and CMB partnership, the MAPSO Freedom School, an antiracist organization of students, parents and teachers, will also cosponsor for this gathering.

Source of Knowledge Bookstore, Newark’s critically popular Black bookstore, will have the book available for purchase.

The conversation will take place at 6pm EST at Express Newark’s Lecture Hall.

The host organizers describe the series this way:

“MALCOLM X: MULTIDIMENSIONAL brings together a cinematic and audiovisual cultural memory to frame his multifaceted legacy, intertwining Islam, education, Black Nationalism, militant organizing, incarceration, and Third Worldist solidarity.

“Through mythmaking, recordkeeping, documentaries, and experimental films; network programs of speeches and interviews with Malcolm X as well as his contemporaries and inheritors; documentation by Black television producers; and the radical imaginaries of artists, the series constructs a prismatic perspective on the many people Malcolm X was, and places the individual in a collective picture…”

MXCC Chair Zayid Muhammad will participate in teach-ins held on September 14th on Third World Revolution and on Black Television at 5:45pm.

Anthology Film Archives is located at 32 Second Avenue, Lower Manhattan. Call for ticketing 212 505 5181…
