A rally to support State Representative Cynthia A. Johnson was held on the west side of Detroit on December 16 amid attacks on this African American political official. Supporters and neighbors gathered in front of her house.
Rep. Johnson has been removed from her legislative committees at the State Capitol in Lansing.
This unjust act by the Republican-dominated House is reflective of the racist and right-wing atmosphere prevailing now in Michigan. Rep. Johnson questioned the validity of the claims made at a legislative
hearing where Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani and his witnesses made false claims seeking to disenfranchise millions of voters in Detroit and other cities.
Detroit is a majority African American municipality, which Cynthia A. Johnson represents. These purported witnesses resisted being sworn in where they would have had to clearly state and spell their names.
Since the rebuke of Giuliani, Rep. Johnson has been subjected to racist insults and threats of violence. The demonstration was called by Moratorium NOW! Coalition and attended by other community organizations and activists.
