On February 1, 2023, demonstrators opposing the ongoing genocide in Gaza protested outside of the offices of UAW Region 1 in Warren, Michigan. Inside the Region 1 headquarters, President Biden was meeting with United Autoworkers leadership, including President Shawn Fain. A week earlier, the UAW endorsed Biden bid to win a second term. Demonstrators chanted “Genocide Joe has got to go” and demanded that all U.S. aid to the racist Zionist settler colonial state of Israel be terminated.
About 200 loud and spirited demonstrators were met by riot cops who prevented protestors from getting near the meeting. Demonstrators urged Michigan voters to Abandon Biden and vote “uncommitted” in the upcoming Democratic Party presidential primary on February 27. After the demonstration, one young protestor was arrested.
