Detroit Workshops and Demonstration Held to Protest APEC Gathering

A meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit was held in downtown Detroit as part of a series of gatherings hosted by the United States.

Additional meetings aimed at negotiating a new Indo-Pacific Economic Framework agreement will be held in other cities including San Francisco.

Workshops, a rally and march to protest the event were attended by a number of organizations including the International League for People’s Struggle (ILPS), the Moratorium NOW! Coalition, Veterans for Peace, among others on Saturday, May 20.

Representation from the UAW Region 9 was in attendance and addressed the rally. Ray Jensen, Jr. noted that the UAW has refrained from endorsing the re-election of President Joe Biden the outcome of decisions related to the impact of electric vehicle production on the workforce.
