With nothing to celebrate in week 11 of their Spring/Summer Offensive against the Russian Federation the Ukrainian government is focused on festivities for the 31st anniversary of that nation’s separation from the Russian Federation on August 24, 1992,
But the Zelensky regime in Ukraine is a direct descendent of the 2014 coup d’etat engineered by the U.S. State Department and the Central Intelligence Agency that overthrew an elected Ukrainian government. The “Maidan Revolution” installed a pro-U.S., anti-Russian regime that strongly leaned on right-wing, pro-Nazi armed militias.
This new government with the armed fascists then proceeded to attack the large populations of ethnic Russian Ukrainian people in the east and south of Ukraine.
What kind of independence can one celebrate if you are totally beholden to the U.S. imperialists and their NATO allies? In fact it was right after the 2014 coup that Western military aid started flowing into Ukraine with the aim of bringing Ukraine into the anti-Russian NATO military organization. With Western supplied weapons the Kiev regime waged war against two areas that also declared independence – the Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples’ Republics.
When the Russian Federation finally launched their Special Military Operation on February 24, 2022, it was to put an end to military attacks by Ukraine against its own people that cost over 14,000 lives from 2014 to 2022.
It has also been widely reported that negotiations were held between Russia and Ukraine shortly after February 24, 2022 and that these talks were close to an agreement. Then the U.S. government ordered the Zelensky government to stop the talks. Since Ukraine has received hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth in military equipment and economic aid, the Ukrainian regime had no choice but to walk away from a peace settlement. So much for Ukrainian “independence.”
Even the Ukrainian offensive was created with Western training, equipment and planning. The top Ukrainian military commander, in explaining why the offensive made almost no progress so far, stated that it could not succeed without air power and much more heavy armor from the West. He pointed out NATO would never try to cross giant mine fields without air cover and huge artillery support. The conclusion, then, must be: follow orders. But that really isn’t independence at all!
