Two thousand supporters of Palestine rallied and marched in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn on October 14. Just one week ago around 1500 Palestinian soldiers broke out of the prison that is the Gaza strip, overrunning Israeli military bases and settler communities. The response of the U.S.-armed Israeli Occupation Forces has been guided by retaliation and revenge directed at the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza – a territory about the size of Detroit. Already many thousands of Palestinian civilians have been killed and wounded in the carpet bombing of Gaza. Among those killed so far have been 14 United Nations workers. It is estimated that 60% of those killed have been women and children. There is no sign that Israel, supported 100% by U.S. President Joe Biden, intends to stop the genocidal siege and slaughter in Gaza.

Thousands came out in the rain and stayed for hours. Among the chants was “1, 2, 3, 4 Gaza broke down the prison door; 5, 6, 7, 8 Israel is a terrorist state.” The mostly young crowd made it clear that the fight for Palestinian self-determination would never be extinguished. The Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM) initiated the call for today’s action.
