Wayne State University Medical School Demonstration Against Genocide and Repression

Faculty members and community activists gathered outside the Wayne State University Medical School and the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in the Midtown District in Detroit to protest the ongoing genocide in Palestine and the increasing repression against freedom of speech at higher educational institutions in the United States.

This rally took place on Friday, April 4, 2025, while attracting the support of the Doctors Against Genocide, the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN), the WSU Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine, Moratorium NOW! Coalition, National Lawyers Guild, among others.

WSU has been a focal point of solidarity with Palestine.

The students held an encampment last spring to demand the full disclosure and divestment from holdings in the settler State of israel.

The encampment was broken up by police after one week leading to several beatings and arrests. The destruction of the “Free University for Gaza” encampment followed the same pattern as many other campuses such as the University of Michigan.

Just days before the April 4 action at the Medical School, campus police disrupted another demonstration in solidarity with Palestine outside the Student Center on the main campus.
