Now into its third year of war, there are growing predictions of a collapse of the Ukrainian military in the face of growing pressure from the Russian Federation forces. The Ukrainian government, installed by a U.S. sponsored coup in 2014 has dutifully carried out its instructions to wage war against Russia. When the Russian Federation finally responded to the threat by Ukraine to join NATO by carrying out its Special Military Operation in February 2022, Ukraine willingly carried out a proxy war with its NATO trained and armed troops.

Now, having suffered enormous losses in killed and wounded and having lost a huge amount of its heavy armor, artillery and air defenses, Ukraine is retreating against the  more numerous and better armed Russian military. Even major Western news media are being forced to recognize the hard facts. Newsweek headlined the “Ukraine’s Frontline is Collapsing” in its MSN.com story from February 29.

The New York Times also reflected pessimism in a February 24 story. This piece is deceptively titled “Ukraine’s Deepening Fog of War.” Fog of war is a phrase to describe the difficulties of seeing what is actually happening in the midst of battle. The actual text of the article clearly reports the losses and weaknesses of the Ukraine military. “The forecasts are anything but optimistic; The best Ukraine can hope for in 2024, many Western officials and analysts say, is to simply hold the line.”

The hands pulling the strings of this proxy war are also becoming more exposed. The New York Times ran a major story on a network of U.S. military command centers running the Ukraine side of the war that includes “12 secret locations along the Russian border” that is “part of a C.I.A.-supported network of spy bases constructed in the past eight years.”

According to the Times, one of the bases is an “underground bunker, built to replace the destroyed command center … a secret nerve center of the Ukraine military.” These bases are “almost fully financed, and partly equipped, by the C.I.A.” They “provide intelligence for targeted missile strikes, track Russian troop movements and help support spy networks.” This C.I.A. – Ukraine collaboration has been going on since shortly after the 2014 right-wing coup.

U.S. and NATO: There will be no negotiations.

The Western puppet masters, however, have no intention of allowing negotiations to end this bloody conflict. In the face of the worsening military situations there are threats of escalation.

Most alarming were remarks by President Emmanuel Macron of France. On February 26 he told the press that sending Western troops into Ukraine should not be ruled out. This threat came following a meeting of 30 European leaders held in Paris. This came after Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Slovakia, publicly warned that “some Western countries were considering sending soldiers to Ukraine,” an idea he opposed.

“The unofficial presence of Western special forces in Ukraine is a matter of common knowledge” according to the Financial Times on February 27. “British, French and US special force operatives have also been active in the conflict zone, according to a set of classified Pentagon documents leaked last year…In late 2022, a British military publication acknowledged that more than 300 Royal Marines were involved in ‘discreet operations in a hugely sensitive environment and with a high level of political and military risk’ in Ukraine.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to these and other threats of direct U.S./NATO escalation in a forceful speech to the nation on February 29. “We also have weapons that can strike targets on their territory. Do they not understand this?” Putin stated. “We remember the fate of those who once sent their contingents to the territory of our country. But now the consequences for potential interventionists will be much more tragic.”

A recently released audio file was exposed first by Russian media on March 1 which appears to be a recording of top German generals talking about an attack on the Kerch bridge connecting Russia directly with the Crimean peninsula. According to Newsweek on MSN.com, they discussed using long range missiles and how to conceal Germany’s involvement. The German government has launched an investigation into who and how the leak occurred. Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated: “I do know this one thing. The Second World War era call has once again become relevant: DEATH TO THE FASCISTS!”
